The Jacket-Shirt

I'm wearing an old leather jacket, a Levis jean jacket, a GUESS by Marciano printed knit skirt, my Frye boots (per usual), and carrying a Timberline Ltd. purse.

A couple days ago, while at my internship, I accidentally ripped my denim shirt in half—an impromptu belly shirt if you will. I don't know how it happened, but it happened. All I know was that I looked ridiculous and completely unprofessional in my newly gaping shirt, and felt embarrassed as I worked throughout the day at my über chic, luxury fashion company. Consequently I have to buy a new denim shirt, And for me, finding the perfect denim shirt is like shopping for that perfect pair of boots—it takes months! So, my solution is to wear a jean jacket as a shirt, of course! Does it work? Yes. Is it so hot that it makes me sweat to death? Hell yes, but I'll suffer in the name of fashion. I especially like how the heaviness of the jean jacket adds a little depth and dimension, as opposed to a regular old denim chambray.

As for my purse, it was a gift from my cute mom. I have been lusting after a Pendleton Native American blanket forever now, but who has that kind of money on a college budget?! So this purse was the next best thing, and I love it. It is from a great little shop on Etsy called Timberline Treasures, which specializes in items made from Pendleton wools and tapestries. Sneak Peak FAST + Brielle McClain Photoshoot

I'm Wearing Black

I'm wearing a maxi dress from JMR, Frye boots, and Vans sun glasses—all black, and pretty simple. Searching for the perfect black maxi dress took months and months. But, I finally found one while in Salt Lake City at one of my favorite boutiques, JMR. The fabric is incredibly soft but high-quality (i.e. thick and durable), thus it lays perfectly on the body. I also love the cut of the dress on both the back and the front. And, the safety pin cross was my quick, easy, and affordable DIY for the week (seen here).

I'm going to change the subject just slightly and talk about my boots—my beloved boots. I feel the need to pay homage to them, it's long overdue. They may not be the sexiest things in my closet, and they definitely do not bring all the boys to my yard. But I like them, a lot. And that's all that really matters, right? Right.

Safety Pin Cross - DIY

This is the quickest DIY project I have ever taken on. It took me roughly ten minutes in total—that's it! All you need is a garment (dress, T-shirt, tank top, etc.) and several safety pins. I just used a few handfuls of various sized safety pins. Not only do I like the look of the heterogeneous pins, but I like "messy" way in which I attached them to my dress (I eyeballed it). I like my DIY projects to actually look like DIY projects. Anyways, you could do any design with this DIY, not just a cross obviously. Quick, easy, and totally affordable.

I haven't styled this dress into an outfit yet because I was so excited to share, but pictures are coming! With that said, good luck and happy holiday weekend!

Joshua Tree Highway - Deserted

You have undoubtedly seen this top, and these boots before (they are some favorite items). I'm wearing an LF Stores tank, Hudson jeans, and Frye boots. But, what else are you supposed to wear in the desert during the winter?

I am loving the desert more and more, especially the Joshua Tree Highway. There are thousands and thousands of Joshua Trees for miles and miles—it is incredible, and so beautiful. I think it's safe to say I am a desert lover with its crazy cacti, it bland sandy soil, and its everlasting bright blue sky. I wish it was all appreciated more.

On a different note, classes begin tomorrow—wish me luck! Oh and happy Wolf Moon!

The London Bridge

The crop rust-colored sweater I'm wearing is from a local boutique in Salt Lake City called Lolabella. My pants are by The Row, from their Fall/Winter 2012 runway. And as far as my accessories go, the gold heels are from Aldo and were only worn once for a high school dance. My sunglasses are Vans, and were given to my by Santa. Finally, the barely seen gold bracelet was handed down to me by my grandma (more to come on that later).

The beautiful bridge behind me is the London Bridge in Lake Havasu, Arizona—weird I know. Regardless, it is absolutely beautiful. You can take a ferry ride under the bridge, go shopping, or feed the ducks. I would say the bridge is Havasu's main attraction, besides the lake itself of course. MTV holds their spring break in Havasu, and the movie Piranha was filmed there. I absolutely love Lake Havasu, and you cannot beat the weather!

On a different note, the combination of dark navy blue and rust is currently intriguing me. It is my own interpretation of the complimentary pair of basic blue and orange. I can't get enough of it, but let me know what you think!

Thelma and Louise Photo Diary

My mom and I took a quick, spontaneous road trip to Lake Havasu, Arizona this past week. It was so much fun, we felt just like Thelma and Louise (ironically we had just watched that movie a few days prior)! My grandparents live in Havasu and I hadn't seen them in quite a long time—more details on my visit are coming soon.

It was great to escape Utah and free my mind. We dot-to-dotted from truck stop to truck stop listening to old music, eating fast food and drinking Mexican Cokes. The trip's official sound track had to be The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac—my new favorite. We used to make this trip all of the time when I was a little girl, and I absolutely hated it. However, times have changed and I have gained a new appreciation for it. The desert is incredibly beautiful. I love it. Thanks for a great time Mom!

The Ultimate Top & The "Golden Egg"

I'm wearing a silken button-up blouse by The Row, LF jeans, Sam Edelman Zoe boots, and a vintage Scheilan bag.

Let's just say this is probably one of my most favorite tops right now—it's all I wear. Its opulent fabric, perfect design, recognizable craftsmanship make it quite the standout piece in my wardrobe, even though it is merely "a basic." I bought it one size too big (it was the only one available), and have fallen in love with the flowing quality it has. The Row is with out a doubt my number one fashion brand. It is the ultimate in all aspects.

As for my Scheilan bag, I just thrifted it while back home in Utah for the holidays. I bought it for a mere $24. But, after doing some research I found they regularly retail for hundreds of dollars! It is in GREAT condition too, all I had did was doctor up the tassel and polish the metal. I would say its definitely a statement piece that adds boldness to any basic outfit. However, it's also a total "manrepeller." The day I got it my brother asked me why I wanted to carry around a golden egg, like those in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. He doesn't get it, but kudos for even noticing it right? I love my "golden egg," and will be wearing it with great pride.

The Clint Eastwood

Here it is, my pride and glory. An all-cashmere charcoal trench coat by The Row. Or, as my dad and uncle like to call it, my cowboy duster (they also continued to try it on, and pretended to pull guns out of their holsters). They compared me to Clint Eastwood in The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Outlaw Josey Wales, and Hang Em' High. But after watching True Grit for the hundredth time, I would say that my trench more resembles Jeff Bridge's or Hailee Steinfield's. All of which I am perfectly content with.

I'm paired the trench with a black silk button-up shirt by The Row, Hudson jeans, Frye boots, and a vintage leather tote. I wore this outfit out wine tasting while in Oregon, a rather dark color palette to match the dreary skies. However, the scenery was spectacular and the wine was even better. And, I wouldn't be an environmental studies student if I didn't point out the deforestation on the left-hand side of my pictures—thank you lumber companies.

Now, I cannot wait to wear my cowboy duster back home in Utah all throughout the holiday break! I have to confess that it is rather useless in the benign Los Angeles weather. Let's get these damn finals over so I can go home!

Thanksgiving Photo Diary

I spent my Thanksgiving break with family in Corvallis, Oregon. It was so much fun, filled with good food, good wine, and good conversation. The photo diary above is a brief snapshot of my experience. I hadn't visited Oregon in quite a few years, and I forgot how much I love it there:

1. The beautiful fallen leaves strewn all over Portland.

2. A damn cute Corgi and cuddle buddy, Mr. Johnnie Walker.

3. Covered bridges.

4. Trees sodden in moss.

5. My mom's pride and joy, pumpkin pie.

6. Vintage teacup and saucers sets.

7. Picturesque landscapes.

8. Enjoying music and wine in old barns.

9. Snapshots from a country home.

10. My uncle's sticker collection.

At times I feel overrun by Los Angeles with it's materiality, its artificiality, it tourist-run economy, and its ever present freeway system. It was so nice to get away. Memories made. Next up, Christmas break—if I survive finals.

INSPIRATION DAILY

As of late, my sources of inspiration are rather haphazard—desolate wastelands, Navajo blankets and rugs, gallant cowboys, religious paraphernalia, and that perfect combination of fire and smoke. True to form, I have been drawn to anything in shades of black, white, and gun metal. However, I've also been favoring colors like nude, tobacco, and copper. You could say I'm on a neutral kick, and I love it.

It's so interesting to put all of my inspiration images in mood board fashion like this, I always find patterns. In this case, it encompasses the aforementioned color palette, along with anything blurred, anything with lens flares, or anything in soft focus. It's all very dreamy, like wandering that lonely cold highway in a haze.

RADARTE

I'm wearing a crewneck Rodarte sweatshirt, a chiffon leopard blouse from Wasteland, LF jeans, and my Frye boots.

This is just a quick outfit post from last weekend, while I was back home in Utah. Rodarte presented me with their signature sweatshirt when my internship with them had finished. I've had some questions regarding the sweatshirt, it is in fact supposed to say "RADARTE" instead of "RODARTE." It's a play on words, if you catch my drift.

As of late, I have been living in these LF jeans. They fit perfectly, and they work well with the color palette of my wardrobe—shades of black and white. Speaking of color palettes, for this outfit I wanted to play around with the concept of a rather monochromatic schema paired with a dramatically different piece. Thus, I chose a blackish charcoal for the uniform color, and threw in the leopard blouse. I thought it worked well.

In the pictures with me is my baby hippo, Riley. But really though, she slightly resembles a baby hippo at times. I love her.

Jessica Janae + The Fitting Part Three

This is the third, and final installment of my Jessica Janae photoshoot (see parts one and two)! This part was simultaneously simple yet complex-every aspect has a meaning, but they're not to be over thought. As for the outfit, I have succumbed to the California trend of vintage Levis shorts, and now feel an inherent need for them. The talon around my neck was purchased at a flea market from an older zealous gentleman named Robert. It's made from melted down vintage bullets which just adds to its fatalistic charm. I wore the Jeffery Campbell glitter Litas again because, well who doesn't like making a statement? They put me at about six foot two, and there is nothing better than walking in sky scraper heels.

The film camera I'm holding represents the continual picture-taking a fashion blogger has to do. And when I say continual, I mean it. Most of my friends and family wonder why I have to take photos of everything. Yes, I have to photograph my outfit, your outfit, the jellybeans, and the champagne glasses. Plus, I'm completely enthralled with the idea of capturing an image—a moment forever in time.

LACMA & Los Angeles Design

I'm wearing a nightgown from Anthropologie, random studded belt from New York, and Jeffery Campbell Showpony boots.

I'm taking this amazing class about California, and how it has become a popular setting for film and literature. The basis of the class is that outsiders have this false perception of California. They view it as a place of sunshine, palm trees, and paradise. But when you actually live and experience California, especially Los Angeles, it's full of gloom, freeways, traffic, and contempt. My professor repeatedly says that people come to California to die—quite an interesting concept. I'm actually loving the class even though I'm sort of ambivalent when it comes to my perception of California...

Anyways, my cousin and I went to see the new Los Angeles Design exhibit at LACMA because I'm writing an essay on it for class. The exhibit was so fun, and so full of vintage everything—furniture, clothing, cars, jewelry, lights, advertisements, and they even had an Airstream camper. After the exhibit we wandered the museum and stumbled across some Andy Warhol and Jeff Koons pieces. So amazing. And what's a visit to LACMA without playing the streetlight exhibit?

Jessica Janae + The Fitting Part Two

For part two of my photoshoot with Jessica Janae, I stripped down to my skivvies again. Yes, I'm wearing leather underwear...but who doesn't own a pair right? We focused on the concept of a literal fitting, hence the measuring tape. While the measuring tape is completely literal, there are also some loaded connotations with it in this industry, and I love how those play into the effect. I'm not emaciated like most models, and I'm okay with it.

As far as the lace bell-bottoms and glitter Litas go, I had just purchased them a couple days before, so we just had to use them. We loved the combination of the detailed lace with the statement pewter glitter—it's all about texture!

The Kimono - My New Staple

I'm wearing an LF Stores studded kimono, reworked vintage Levis by LF Stores, random white tank top, and my Frye boots.

I'm completely obsessed with the idea of kimono—similar to cardigans but made of silk or chiffon, and similar to a jacket but more of a statement pieces, and finally, similar to a coat but they don't exactly keep you warm. I was so attracted to this particular kimono because of it's shape. The sleeves have wide openings which I love. They are very hippie-esque, like bell-bottoms for you arms! The studding is also really great around the armholes, and so simply done. Bravo LF Stores, this kimono has become a staple in my wardrobe, and I will be wearing it throughout Fall, into Winter, and also Spring!

Jessica Janae + The Fitting Part One

I collaborated with one of my favorite photographers, Jessica Janae (you may remember her from this post and this post) and did this photoshoot completely dedicated to The Fitting. We drew inspiration from all aspects of The Fitting—my blog, and a literal fitting. This portion of the shoot was initially conceptualized by my mom. The clothing line is a symbolization of the way in which I choose my outfits—if only I could have an indoor clothing line!

The location of the photoshoot was at an abandoned house in my hometown. It has giant trees in front which made for the perfect lighting! You can't tell from the pictures, but the house sits on a main intersection, and let's just say I had to get NAKED a lot (i.e. changing outfits). It was so funny and so gutsy because in Bountiful, Utah, showing even a tiny bit of skin on street corners is absolutely unacceptable. But, it was all worth it. The shoot turned out exactly how I wanted it to. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Jessica and I make a great team!

Vivian Chan

Opulent

I'm wearing a leopard blouse from The Wasteland, Free People lace bell-bottoms, the Zoe boots by Sam Edelman, and a Tana Acton silver crinkle ring.

My inner gothic hippie self has been obsessed with lace bell-bottoms for quite some time now, but I hadn't been able to find that "perfect pair" anywhere. But then Free People created these super long bells with built-in biker shorts—utterly perfect. I love the fact that they dynamically switch from being a statement piece to a staple piece, which makes wearing them that much easier. I wore them constantly while back home in Utah, that is, until people started to notice.

As for the amazingly cool ring around my finger, all credit must be given to my cousin Erica. She discovered Tana Acton's work at a festival in Dallas, and thought it harmonized with my style. Erica my love, you know me all too well. Acton makes these rings by free handedly crinkling and forming sheets of silver. It's such a simple yet unique work of art, and I absolutely love it! Thanks again Erica!

The Culmination

I have been spending the majority of my days lately scouring the internet for any article, picture, or blog post regarding Rodarte's Spring/Summer 2012 collection. This is the photo diary of my very first New York Fashion Week—the culmination of my experience.

I don't even know where to begin describing what it felt like to finally attend fashion week. It was absolutely incredible. But, it was also incredibly hard work—sleepless hours, aching feet, blood, sweat, espresso. Despite all of that, fashion week was my career milestone, the deciding factor. This is exactly what I should be doing, and exactly what I love. It was quite the realization. I also got the opportunity to encounter some of my favorite fashion figures, Grace Coddington, Karlie Kloss, Lindsey Wixson, and Kirsten Dunst.

The show was mainly influenced by Van Gogh—his sunflowers, almond blossoms, and Starry Starry Night. The designers were also inspired by Disney's Sleeping Beauty, and the Star Wars character Yoda. It may seem like a convoluted combination, but out of it stemmed a cohesive and awe-inspiring work of art. I get chills just from looking at these pictures. I think I'm in love.

I have been trying to do a lot of New York Fashion Week research lately, but it turns out there is merely coverage rather than survival advice. And the advice I did find, aims toward those attending shows, not those who are working them. My official tasks during fashion week include coffee runner, shoe girl (during fittings), and maintaining finances. All are pretty suiting jobs, if I do say so myself.

Now, what I will actually be suiting myself with is another story. As interns, we can only wear black. Thank god black is my favorite color, and thank god that I have plenty of black items in my wardrobe. However, did more research on how to wear all black throughout, and still look like I belong at fashion week. Above are some of my inspiration/reference pictures—I'm still planning outfits, we'll see how that goes...

RODARTE

This summer I got the opportunity to intern with Rodarte, the brainchild of artistic geniuses Kate and Laura Mulleavy. You might know Rodarte from the costumes in Black Swan, or their stunning shoe collaborations with Christian Louboutin and Nicholas Kirkwood. Needless to say, interning with them is quite the opportunity. My time with them isn't over yet, but I just wanted to reflect on my experience. I feel so lucky, and absolutely honored to work for the Mulleavy sisters. I am so grateful to have attained such a thing. Each day I'm in the Rodarte studio, I realize just how much I enjoy fashion and the industry—words don't even come close to fully explaining how much.

Life-Long Dream Come True

Now that I have officially booked my flights, it's time to share my incredible news with everyone...I'm going to New York Fashion Week! It still feels completely weird to say that. Going to New York Fashion Week has been one of my life-long dreams, and it's actually coming true. I'm so excited that I can't help but spontaneously scream from time to time. Sometimes this scream also includes my victory dance, or uncontrollably jumping up and down. I have always fantasized what it would be like to physically attend fashion week, but now I get to physically experience it. Once again, I AM SO EXCITED.

Please please please share any tips, advice, or recommendations you might have for fashion week! More details to come, I better start planning outfits now.

Okay I guess it's time to bring everyone up to speed with all that has been going on. First of all, I apologize for not posting more frequently. I don't want to call it a lull because it's not, but for some reason I haven't been "in the mood," I guess you could say. Maybe it's because we are in fashion's down season, or maybe it's because I'm just uninspired with my wardrobe. To be quite honest, I don't know what is wrong with me. All I actually know is one thing: I've somehow lost my mojo and I need to get it back. BUT, the good news is that I think I'm on my way to rediscovering this missing mojo.

Once again, I'm sorry—I was lost, and I've found my way back. A lot of things changed (that I can't wait to tell everyone about), and a lot of things stayed the same. UPDATES COMING SOON, I promise.

The Significance Of Simplicity

I'm wearing and LF sheer maxi dress, Victoria's Secret slip dress, my Wasteland pyramid ring, and Jeffrey Campbell glitter Litas.

These are from a photoshoot for my fashion club, FAST at UCLA. All of the models were asked to either dress in an outfit that best suits their personality, or bring props that do the same. I went with the outfit. This outfit symbolizes me in so many ways—black is my favorite color. My go-to outfit is always one clad in all black, and I love wearing a little black dress. I also have this attraction to lingerie and having it as my everyday wear. Lastly, like a lot of fashionistas, I have an addiction to the Jeffrey Campbell Litas and wear them on a daily basis.

I was going to edit the photos by cropping out the tears, folds, and feet print on the backdrop, but for some reason I actually like them.

Venice Beach—Muscle Beach

I'm wearing and LF chiffon top, vintage cut-offs, Free People gladiators, and Ray-Ban aviators.

These were taken a weekend or two ago when some friends came to town. We spent the whole time eating amazing food, shopping, soaking up the sun, and biking on the beach. There is this great place on Abbot Kinney called Three Square Bakery and Cafe. We ordered avocado fries, grilled cheese sliders, and freshly squeezed mint lemonade—all were DELICIOUS!

Okay, so I finally bought some vintage cut-off Levi's (that actually fit) at the Melrose flea market. Yes, I completely agree they are really cute, and who doesn't love a good high-waist? But, the whole camel toe thing sucks, and it is totally painful on a bike. Just saying. However, I don't think any summer is complete without vintage cut offs, especially in California!

The One Pair

Okay, okay so I only brought one pair of shorts to Vegas—it was a short, whirlwind trip. Packing one pair was a complete accident, but ended up being a fun fashion challenge. I kept asking myself, how many ways can I wear these shorts?! But I also had to keep in mind that we would be walking up and down The Strip in desert heat. So, tanks, crop-tops, and loose flowy shirts were the only feasible options. My über comfortable Frye boots were perfect for walking in, and a frozen margarita was the drink of choice.

Happy weekend, enjoy a margarita or five! I have a couple hot dates with Shakespeare, finals week has snuck up on me.

Twenty One

Helllllllooooooooooooooooooo! It's been awhile since I've posted, I know. First I had my twenty first birthday, then it was my fashion club's annual fashion show, then I had visitors staying at my place, and now it's time for my final exams. I've hardly had time to catch my breath, but all this craziness will subside soon...hopefully!

These are some pictures from my twenty first birthday in Las Vegas!! It was a whirlwind trip that was packed full of fun activities. We drank margaritas and pina coladas, relaxed by the pool, shopped, and walked until our feet fell off. My parents taught me how to gamble which is really fun, until I lost some money. My favorite game was roulette, I feel like the slot machines are totally rigged. My mom also scheduled me an appointment at the NARS cosmetics counter to get my birthday makeup done. Thank you Mom!

I had a giant smile the entire weekend, it was so much fun! Also, can I just say how completely weird it feels to be twenty one years old. Thanks again for all of the wonderful birthday wishes!!

My birthday was FANTASTIC!!! Thank you so much to everyone for the birthday wishes, you all are so sweet! The weekend was filled the regular celebratory stuff—singing, dancing, cake, and presents. The only irregular item was the jet-set trip to Las Vegas, which was so much fun! I took tons of pictures on the trip, so be on the lookout for some upcoming Sin City blog posts!

I'm wearing a vintage silk tank, vintage suede wide-leg pants, J. Crew neon belts, Dolce Vita sandals, Ray-Ban aviators, and my pyramid ring from Wasteland.

I found these AMAZING pants in the one and only vintage shop, back home in Utah. They were only $20, and are in excellent condition! When I came across them, the Chloé Fall/Winter 2011 instantly came to mind—full of beautiful leathers, and wide-leg trouser shapes. When it comes to clothing, if ANY connection can be made to Chloé, then it MUST be mine! Yep, I'm that obsessed. As of late, I am also obsessed with my neon belt combination. This neon trend is actually really fun to participate in! Any outfit can be completely transformed with even the slightest pop of neon color—it's so exciting!

I recently got the opportunity to model in the latest lookbook for my talented, fashion designer friend, Anna Reutinger. This year her collection is called GRUB, and it's based on the concept of models starving themselves, or actually refute that concept. Rather than suppressing food, as the fashion industry so often does, food is happily welcomed.

Anna designed each outfit after specific foods, or favorite meals. Likewise, she dyed each garment using only food items, or other natural elements. Fittings were in the form of dinner parties, and we used various foods for props in this lookbook photoshoot.

You may remember previous posts I've written about Anna (here and here), she is AMAZING! I'm so glad we are friends, we are big supporters of each others fashion endeavors.

To quote one of my best friends, "slumber parties are still totally awesome." Yep, I recently had a slumber party—complete with pizza, pajamas, and Lady Gaga (of course)! It was so much fun, and I was in need of some good friend time. The morning after our sleepover we got up early, and went to the Rosebowl Flea Market. You can seriously find anything and everything there, it's unique items galore. We had extremely specific items on our lists: vintage LEVIS denim jacket, vintage silk tank tops, a vintage Aerosmith T-shirt, pointed creepers, and cut-off cowboy boots. Needless to say, it went well—really well.

Fashion Blogger Dinner

My good friend, Dylana Saurez of Color Me Nana is taking on a new career adventure—moving across the country to Philadelphia for a new job with Free People! So we all got together for a big fashion blogger dinner, in order to celebrate. I was so excited to meet some bloggers that I've been admiring for some time now, Aimee Song of Song of Style and Raych Nguyen of That's Chic. I also met Eunicia Balaj of My Brunette World, and her sister Beatrice Balaj.

This type of stuff is one of the many reasons why I LOVE blogging—meeting so many AMAZING people. I can't wait to get everyone together again soon! As for Dylana and me, we'll continue to be good friends through skype, emails, and visits to Philly of course! Good luck Dylana, I love you!

Morning on Melrose

This past Sunday, I went to the Fairfax Flea Market for the first time with one of my really good friends, Tess of HOLYGHOST. It's not quite as huge and overwhelming as the Rosebowl Flea Market, but it's just as good. I picked up some amazing Pamela Love-esque jewelry that I can't wait to share with you!

After the flea market, we walked down Melrose and found this really great bright red wall, so we had to take some pics! I've been obsessed with this vintage sheer robe since the day I bought it, and my parents gave me this striped maxi for Easter—I thought they would be perfect together! And, a big thank you to LUXLA for my hex bracelet, I LOVE IT!

The annual fashion show for UCLA's fashion club (FAST) I'm involved in is coming up very soon, and I'm so excited for it! It was through both the fashion show, and the club that I met Anna Reutinger—an incredibly talented student fashion designer. Her clothing is simply ingenious, and she has a great eye for detail. I walked in her line last year for the fashion show, and will model it again this year!

A few months ago she asked me to be in the launch video for her line, and of course I said, "YES!" Well, the video below is the final product, and I think it turned GREAT! What do you think of it, I'd love to know?!

Casual Dinner With Friends

I went to dinner with a good friend of mine at the Crepe Cafe in Santa Monica. It was soooo yummy! I always get a nutella crepe—they're the best! And, I finally wore the scalloped crop-top that was featured a few posts ago (see here). But, I felt a little overdressed for a casual dinner with friends, so I toned it down with an army jacket and motorcycle boots.

Over the weekend while running errands everywhere in Santa Monica, I came across this orange-sherbet wall. Luckily I bring my camera with me everywhere, so I decided to snap some quick pics of my bohemian-esque outfit. My top is actually a vest, but who obeys clothing rules nowadays anyways? I also love tying maxi skirts with knots, it gives a peek-a-boo effect. It also helps to keep your skirt up off the ground if you're wearing flats.

A current trend that I just can't seem to get enough of, is the scallop. They are just so cute, so feminine, and so Easter-appropriate!

To me, scallops are like lace—so delicate, and so sweet (as appropriately titled). I found all of these items while scouring the Internet for my new internship last Thursday and Friday. I'm wearing a gifted floral crop top, LF high-waisted short, random socks I found in the back of my drawer, and Converse. I LOVE pairing crop-tops with high-waisted bottoms, like I did here—it's still fun, but looks classy!

The final day that my cousin was here, we woke up really early, had breakfast at Urth Caffé, and then went ride bikes along the beach. I'm pretty sure riding bikes on the beach is one of my favorite activities of all time. It was so much fun to show her Santa Monica Beach, and Venice Beach, they both have so much to offer!

We both dressed for really warm weather, and it was a good thing, because this was the hottest day of the weekend. By the end of the day we had gotten A LOT of color, and were completely drained by the sun. So, we finished the day with yummy strawberry and banana margaritas! Jeez, I love California and its beautiful weather!

My Grownup Girl Overalls

This is my cute cousin at Sprinkles in a vintage dress. We ordered a chai latte cupcake, and a chocolate marshmallow cupcake, both to share.

The second day my cousin, Emily was in Los Angeles we did some amazing shopping, and ate some delicious food! We went shopping on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica, Rodeo Drive, and Melrose! I made sure to find some very California-esque clothing for Emily to take back home with her. Then, we stopped off for cupcakes at Sprinkles, and ate lunch at Simple Things—sugar overload, I realize, but we walked it off!

I wore an LF denim romper from a year or two ago, Free People lace bandeau and lace-up gladiators, Buffalo Exchange ring, and Ray-Ban aviators.

I love how this romper looks like overalls. The last time I wore actual overalls, I was about seven years old... So, I guess you could call these my modern-day, grownup overalls. And, I love them!

Los Angeles Tour Guide

This weekend my cousin came to visit Los Angeles for the first time! She came at the perfect time too, we had beautiful sunny and hot weather this weekend, which was completely different from her rainy and cold Oregon territory. I couldn't believe she had never been to LA before, but I made sure to show her a good time! I gave her a one of a kind tour that included both locals-only places, and the tourist traps.

On her first day here, I took her to see my home away from home, UCLA. We then walked around Westwood and ate ice cream sammies from the beloved Diddy Riese. That night I took her to one of Santa Monica's main attractions, The Promenade! Even though this place is quite the tourist trap, it is so much fun—the street performers, the amazing shopping, and of course the unbelievably close proximity to the beach. We shopped, we ate, we laughed, and we walked until our little legs wanted to fall off.

On the day of Sincerely Jules' event at the Century City Madewell, I wore my DIY cut-out shoulder shirt, and I was totally feeling the 90's grunge look this day (hello unkempt hair)!

All of the wonderful Los Angeles fashion bloggers went to lunch this weekend in celebration of Julie Sarinana's Madewell event—love you Jules! We went to Pink Taco and munched on some delicious Mexican food. Afterward we did what bloggers do best, TAKE PICTURES! And thanks to Melanie, we were able to capture THEE most legendary fashion blogger picture. Ever. Now, achieving such a picture took a while, and I'm positive that passerby shoppers thought we were all crazy. But, it was well worth it!

I wore my DIY Urban Outfitters flannel, LF skinny jeans, Jeffrey Campbell boots, and Ray Ban aviators.

DIY Cut-Out Shoulders!

For this DIY project, you'll need the following supplies:

Shirt (long sleeve, short sleeve, flannel, silk, cotton—it doesn't matter, as long as you like it) The one I'm using came from the men's sale section at Urban Outfitters.
Pair of fabric scissors
Thread
Sewing needle
Fabric pencil
Paper
Pins (not pictured)

Step One - Mark off the shoulder area of the shirt where you want the cut-out to go. There are roughly 4 inches in between my safety pins.

Step Two - Cut an oval shape out of your paper and make sure it fits perfectly between the marks on your shirt. Then, trace half of the oval shape onto the flat-lying shirt with your fabric pencil.

Step Three - Cut the traced shape out with your fabric scissors.

Step Four - Fold down the fabric of the cut-out about 1/2 of an inch, in order to make a clean hem. Then, sew the hem with a basic stich. I hand-sewed mine, but you can easily run it under a sewing machine.

This has probably been my favorite DIY project yet. It's so fast, and so easy! I love love love cut-out shoulders, they give such an edge to any top! I have seen cut-out shoulders in tons of collections lately, especially in LF and Volcom. So, this DIY is well worth a try! I feel like you could definitely switch up the cut-out shape as well...perhaps rectangles or diamonds instead of ovals, or if you're really feeling creative you stars or hearts. On Friday night I attended the MANGO and Marie Claire event featuring on of my favorite fashion bloggers, Natalie Suarez of Natalie Off Duty. I don't think I've had that much fun in a long time! I finally got to meet some other AMAZING fashion bloggers that I have admired for quite some time like Dylana Suarez of Color Me Nana, Julie Sarinana of Sincerely Jules, Shea Marie of Cheyenne Meets Chanel, Becs of Style With Benefits, and Melanie of Wrecked Stellar. I feel so honored to have been surrounded by such fabulous women, and we all became quick friends!

Natalie styled me in some fun MANGO pieces—a pastel knit sweater and some denim daisy dukes, perfect for spring and summer. We all shopped, ate yummy hors d'œuvres, drank bubbly beverages, and took lots and lots of pictures. There were also PLENTY of laughs shared between everyone, it was such a good time. At the very end of the night, Natalie performed for everyone. She is incredibly talented!

I wore a vintage Lanvin dress to the event. And, paired it with my leather jacket and my new glitter Jeffrey Campbell Litas.

My phone is constantly buzzing with urgent texts, and my inbox never seems to be empty. Admittedly, I bring all of this chaotic business upon myself. BUT, I wish I could just stop and watch the sunset, sans stress, and sans technology. Oh well, the day will come I guess. Push yourself now, and reap the benefits later. Plus, we all create our own limits anyways. Just don't create them. Done. It's settled. I'll stop complaining.

At work the other day, I had the pleasure of helping the beautiful Cole Morrall find the perfect pair of Jeffrey Campbell Litas. We got to talking, and I came to find out that she is both the owner, and the founder of an amazing accessories company called, Bones and Feathers Collective. She was wearing a necklace that night, made out of gold-plated rattlesnake vertebrae—it was very, very cool. Their pieces are both "creepy and pretty" at the same time. It is quite the unique, appealing aesthetic, similar to the one of Pamela Love. But, I definitely wouldn't mind incorporating BFC's amazing accessories into my wardrobe. I want teeth hanging around my neck, bones dangling on my arms, and dead flowers perched atop my head.

I haven't noticed my shoe addiction until recently. Mom and Dad kindly shed some light on it while discussing my finances one night. It's not a bad addiction. In fact, I think it's comparatively healthy, but it does get out of control sometimes. But, I just purchased these bad boys yesterday—Jeffrey Campbell Litas in glitter! I now have two pairs...the other ones can be seen here, here, and here. Call it an addiction, or call it an obsession. Or hey, maybe it's both! Purpled Leather

I'm wearing and LF blazer, Haines wife-beater, vintage leather skirt, and my Jeffrey Campbell LITAS.

While at home for spring break, I raided my mom's closet for the eightieth time and found this beauty! It's a high waisted, tea-length, fully lined purple leather skirt! I went crazy, oh and thanks mom! But, here's the deal with tea-length skirts and dresses...the hem generally between your mid to lower calve. So, I think that high heels (an I'm talking skyscraper heels) look best with anything tea-length. If you can pull off flats with a tea-length dress then I give you two GIANT gold stars, because I sure as hell can't....probably because of my height. Flats with this beautiful, but rather awkward length makes it look like I'm wearing floods. BUT, when it comes to wearing awkward length pants like the cropped jean there is a whole different story, because flats definitely look great with them! I guess I'll have to get into the crop pant another time.

The Sting Of COCO

I have a mega girl crush on Coco Sumner, also known as I Blame Coco. She has a unique, edgy style that I just can't seem to get enough of. And, she seems to have one of those rare, down-to-earth, authentic attitudes. I also think Coco is absolutely gorgeous! In fact, she is probably one of the prettiest girls I have ever seen. Another fun fact about Ms. Coco Sumner is that she is the daughter of the talented, and ever-popular musician, Sting. No wonder her music is equally fantastic, music runs in the family! My only problem is, iTunes doesn't sell her music unless you are located in the UK. So, I'm stuck replaying her music videos on youtube. But, I am just grateful to have even discovered such a gem. It's safe to say that I am COMPLETELY obsessed—in a healthy, non-creepy way of course!

Chloé showed their Autumn/Winter 2011 collection yesterday in Paris, and my heart is still a flutter from watching the live stream! Once again, Chloé did it perfectly. Below are some of the things I saw in the collection that I am most excited about—hello leather wide leg pants AND leather overalls!

AND finally, I saw a cream cape in Chloé's new collection that reminded me of the vintage one I bought two months ago. They are both a whitish, creamish color, calf-length and tie around the neck. I was absolutely giddy when I made this connection! It was one of the most self assuring moments I've had to date, because I actually do know what the hell I'm talking about when it comes to my one true love, FASHION! THANK GOODNESS! Weekend Photo Diary

Over the weekend I went to some crazy diner in downtown Los Angeles with the amazing Anna Reutinger (see here and here). The whole place is "decorated" with vintage arcade games and televisions. They have just about everything on their menu too, but I would recommend the orange juice—it's freshly squeezed whenever it's ordered! The cupcake is from BabyCakes NYC. It's a vegan, gluten-free brownie cupcake with creamy vanilla frosting to be EXACT. It was divine, and I cannot wait to go back and try EVERYTHING on the menu!

I also bought a new pair of Jeffrey Campbell boots from the LF Montana seasonal sale, along with a black sheer tunic. I then got a mani/pedi (for the first time in a LONG time) with Essie's new color, Topless & Barefoot—I think it's the perfect nude for Spring! Finally, my grandparents sent me a surprise box of homegrown oranges. They are so bright and beautiful.

Behind The Scenes - FAST at UCLA & Volcom

The FAST & Volcom photoshoot went really well! We started the day of bright and early (and thankfully not raining) at 8:00 AM for hair and makeup with Stephanie Potts. Then we headed down to Venice and Santa Monica to do hair/makeup touch ups, style the outfits, and start the shoot. The outfits had a day-to-night theme in which the day outfits were casual and beachy, and the night outfits were more dressy. Space 15 Twenty

Over the weekend I went to a great little spot in Hollywood called, Space 15 Twenty for an event featuring one of my FAVORITE fashion brands, Stone Cold Fox! It was such a cold, rainy night but everyone still came out dressed to kill to show their support. Stone Cold Fox was showing their latest collection, and it is absolutely gorgeous! I went with Tess Lecklitner of HOLYGHOST, and we were ogling at the vertical striped bell bottoms designer, Cydney Morris was wearing (pictured bellow)—they also came in an antique pink/rust velvet (I know, my heart skipped a beat too). The collection also featured the coolest pair of shorts I have ever seen, made from a Mexican blanket. I am thinking these could possibly be my next D.I.Y. project... The other great part about this collection was all of the lace! Lace was used to both make entire garments, or simply trim them. It was beyond beautiful!

Two other up-and-coming fashion brands were also featured at the event, LUV AJ and Novella Royale. I fell in love with both! LUV AJ is an amazing jewelry brand, designed and made by Amanda Thomas. Each piece of jewelry is gorgeous and one-of-a-kind. I really liked how heavy duty the jewelry was as well, you know it's good quality and well-made. Novella Royale is also about making one-of-a-kind pieces, but instead of jewelry, we are talking about handbags—awesome handbags! Each one is made out of a vintage leather jacket, thus not creating waste out of new materials.

I'm so glad I got to attend this event. It was so much fun, and I loved learning about these new, up-and-coming designers. You can bet that I'll be incorporating their stuff into my wardrobe very, very soon!

FAST at UCLA & Volcom Photoshoot

My fashion club FAST (Fashion and Student Trends) at UCLA has a very, very exciting event coming up! We are collaborating with Volcom to do a photoshoot for their Spring/Summer 2011 collection! It's probably the biggest, and most exciting thing FAST has done in it's 10 years, and I'm so grateful to be a part of it! The shoot will take place next Monday, and I can't believe it's already here!

Conceptualization for the shoot began about a month or two ago, in which the photographer and I pulled these inspiration images and put them all together in these collages. It has been an amazing experience for me because I have been, and will be acting as the Creative Director, Event Coordinator and Stylist for the shoot. I will actually be modeling as well, which I am SO excited about! Needless to say though, I have been feeling the pressure. I really, really hope it turns out well—fingers/toes crossed! Everyone at Volcom have been gems to work with. They are so sweet, so energetic, so positive, so open, and so supportive. THANK YOU ladies!

Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood

I'm wearing a vintage silk blouse, an American Apparel skirt and floppy hat, random studded belt, and my Jeffrey Campbell Litas.

Yesterday was Valentines Day—the day of love, hearts, hugs, kisses and couples. Admittedly, I didn't exactly celebrate. My parents sent me a cute little love package full of candy, little gifts (some were homemade), and spaghetti O's. Thanks Mom and Dad! After school I went and got a manicure and pedicure at fun spot on Main Street, Santa Monica. I'm kind of obsessed with Essie's newest nude color called, Topless & Barefoot. It's perfect for Spring!

Anyways, the outfit I wore spurred a variety of reactions from everyone encountered. Some people really liked the camel-wine color combination, and other didn't. And as always, my Jeffrey Campbell Litas are definite man repellers, conversation starters and weird response getters. But, I'm just curious though, do you think my camel-wine color palette works, or not? I sure think it does! They are two of my favorite colors, so why not wear them together, right?! I mean, I don't wear anything that I don't love.

Behind The Scenes—GMA Video Shoot

Over the weekend I modeled in a video shoot for one of my really good friend's fashion line. Her name is Anna Reutinger, and her line is called GMA, as in grandma—it's a very modern take on the classic, vintage granny style that we all know and love. The shoot was really fun! We had to do rather comical, grandma-ish type things like ride the bus, count coupons, cook, water the plants, and put curlers in our hair. The stage direction was pretty funny as well, I was told to "look slouchy like you have arthritis, but still ya know, look good."

Anna Reutinger is one of the most talented girls I know, and she is very near, and dear to my heart. She is incredibly creative and innovative, of which both qualities can be seen in her fashion line. There are shirts that morph into dresses, skirts that change into jackets, and tuxedo pants lined with LED lights. The Floor Length & The See Through

I'm wearing an LF shirt and sheer dress, my beloved Frye motorcycle boots, and newly gifted Ray Ban aviators.

Overtime I have become a big fan of maxi skirts, and maxi dresses. They are so handy, especially when you are way too busy to shave your legs that day, and need something chic to wear. I feel like there is this air of elegance to maxi-length skirts and dresses—it's feels like wearing a ball gown that doesn't necessitate extreme hair, makeup, heels, or a special event. This sheer, floor length gown in particular was especially appealing to me at LF Montana's sale because, I love the concept of wearing pretty, delicate lingerie as everyday wear.

Anyways, I have a couple photoshoots coming up that I couldn't be more excited for! The one today is for my friend's amazing fashion line, and the one in a few weeks is for Volcom! Don't worry, details to come—I promise! I hope everyone is enjoying fashion week. It's all over my twitter feed, and I cannot seem to get enough of it!

My Chloé Confessions

There is a very special place in my heart for Chloé. Everything about the brand is exquisite; the clothing, the handbags, the shoes, the sunglasses, the fragrances, the models, the runway shows. Everything. To me, the ideal Chloé woman is so classy, so worldly, so wise, so beautiful, and so full of life. Chloé gives the perfect balance between vintage and modern. There is also that sense of effortless European style, that so many women lust after. I love Chloé. Today, I told a coworker that if my name and Chloé were in the dictionary, we would be considered synonyms. IN MY DREAMS, I know. But, you can't blame a girl for trying (see below).

My Chloé ~~Confessions~~ Obsessions:

1. I have the Chloé official website bookmarked on my computer, and as number ONE on my top sites. I obsessively check the site each and everyday (sometimes twice a day or whatever) to make sure I'm up-to-date on all things Chloé. I treat it like a blog that gets updated on the daily. But guess what, it doesn't. I think they update their site based on the fashion season, but I still like feeding my Chloé craving. It's like

2. I visit all of the department stores that sell Chloé handbags—just for fun. Or, just because I'm obsessed. I touch the bags (the leather is so incredibly buttery soft), I hold the bags, I walk over to the mirror and check out the bags alongside my outfit. Needless to say, the sales people get unbelievably irritated. Usually, I end up confessing to them, NO I CANNOT AFFORD CHLOÉ HANDBAGS. But yes, I am in fact wasting their time, yes, they aren't going to make any comission off of me, and yes, I am there just to play dress up.

3. I frequent the Melrose Place Chloé boutique. My first visit there was amazing! It was like your first makeout session where you get to explore someone else's mouth and body. You get to really feel them up, if you know what I mean—you get an insane amount butterflies with really large wings flying around in your stomach, and you hope to god that your excitement won't cause you two to bang teeth. Let's just say I got to feel up Chloé, and it was fantastic. I was they only customer there at the time, so the girls loaded me up with lookbooks and business cards, SWEET! I have returned to the store countless time, and now I'm pretty sure all those girls: a) Think I'm crazy, or b) Are annoyed with me beyond reason. But, they are sweet enough make me think Chloé likes me just as much as I like it. They always tell me, "you look so Chloé today," and then my heart skips a beat or two.

4. I own Chloé perfume. Yep, $80-ish was forked out for a cute medium-sized bottle that contains the most scrumptious scent in the world. But, let's be real for a second—perfume doesn't last as long as clothing does. It's not like you can visit vintage perfume stores. I mean, you can find antique perfume bottles at vintage stores, but the actual liquid is gone. So you can imagine my obsession with prolonging my Chloé perfume. I only wear it for "special" occasions, and I only permit myself to two squirts per use. Obviously I end up disregarding said rules, and every occasion turns out to be a "special" one, and two squirts turn into three or four squirts (hair, neck, wrists, clothing). It's a rough tough battle, but it always smells divine.

5. In ~~confession~~ obsession number three, I said that the girls of the Melrose Place Chloé boutique had provided me with all of their lookbooks. I now treat these lookbooks as bible(s)—they go everywhere with me, and I study them religiously. They are quite handy while shopping because I can usually find Chloé-looking pieces, or find ways to create more affordable Chloé outfits (see here). I guess you could say I practice Chloé religiously too.

6. As you can see very well from this post, I cannot say and/or type the word "Chloé" enough. To make a cheesy, outdated movie quote: it's like "word vomit" (Mean Girls, 2004).

LF Montana & The Only Sale Of The Season!!

LF Montana is one of my all-time favorite places to shop! I know for a fact that I can always find cool, unique shoes there, as well as great, super soft knit t-shirts (that I practically live in). They were kind enough to share their exciting news with me, so that I could share it with all of you—LF Montana is having their only, and their biggest sale of the season! Everything in their entire store is 60% off, including ALL clothing, shoes, purses, hats, scarves, socks and jewelry. I think I will be picking up some Winter to Spring transitional pieces, and probably some of their amazing leggings and tights!
